The iron and steel industry is a traditional pillar industry,which is an important part of national economic construction,the thickness is one of the important indicators of quality steel,the deviation of which directly affects the market share of the strip market.IMS thickness gauge,which is the key downtime equipment in steel rolling production,is widely used in major rolling mills due to its reliability and accuracy in the measurements.During the practical production,the maintenance of the IMS X-ray thickness gauges mostly are manually calibrated by sending plate to the thickness gauge and have less standard board in the standard board library,which will not only leads to low efficiency,but also increases the security risks and endangers the health of staff.Therefore,it is necessary to design a fully automatic calibration device to improve the calibration efficiency and measurement accuracy,meanwhile reduces the human operator errors,and avoids harmness to human health.Firstly,the working principle and the mechanical structure of X-ray gauge are analyzed in detail,then an automatic calibration device with a monitoring system is implemented based on the original manual calibration device,the control algorithms and strategies for automatic calibration system are improved according to different measurement modes.Secondly,the communication between controller PLC and monitoring software InTouch is further discussed,and data transmission is established based on the OPC.Through the above,it has effectively realized the acquisition,processing and control of the standard board data.Finally,the automatic calibration device monitoring software system is developed,five modules including the user information management subsystem,remote control subsystem,subsystem of data processing centers,real-time video subsystem and real-time information display subsystem are established.Besides,the video has provided clearly demonstration for plate thickness measurement operation process.With real-time data in graphic form,in this way,the real-time monitoring of the full plate thickness measurements is realized.Experimental results suggested that the system was stable,reliable and easily operated.Personal safety of staff can be guaranteed by avoiding close-distance operations like manually sending boards.And the system can complete the corresponding calibration operation in the expected time,which improved the accuracy and efficiency of the calibration and provided a technical guarantee to the measurement of the thickness gauge.
