In order to detect and sort out the rings quickly and accurately on the live, a new kind of touch mode machine measuring the diameter of inner or outer ring automatically has been designed based on the analysis of the existing machine. This machine can match the on-line quality control and following system which can control and follow the quality of bearings conveniently by putting the checking data into the system server and compare them with the standard ones.The following points below are the framework of the paper:(1) Related technologies measuring the bear ring had been analyzed and summarized according to the needs of automatic measuring. So as the typical equipments and manu-factures. Measuring principle, configuration of the sensor, related motion flow and partition of the design were also finished next according to the needs of the project.(2) Modular approach and comparative analysis had been used to design the feed-in and feed-out device, ring shifting device, standard ring shifting device and the sensor fixing and feeding device. On the basis of the methods above, optimizing calculation and FLUENT analysis, design of the position fixing and supporting device and spindle spinning device were also completed. What finished next is the control module including the model selection of the air cylinder, air circuit diagram, logic and sequential control of the PLC by graphical method and flow chart.(3) Plant parameters meeting the measuring accuracy were illustrated with error combi-nation function in Matlab after related factors were analyzed and their measuring error functions were given.The design and checking of the drawings of the whole machine being part of the project which would be completed with the company cooperatively have almost been finished now with the remaining work being done ruly. Intensive analysis and discussions turned out that this equipment which can be machined with good machining technology and economic returns can solve the problems existing in the machines described in the introduction of the paper such as weak strength, large measuring deviation, etc.
