The dyeing and finishing of cotton fabric are two separate processes in the traditional textile process.There are many disadvantages in this method,which not only increase the cost of production,but also cause the waste of water resources and more industrial pollution.In this research,in order to achieve the cotton fabric antibacterial finishing and dyeing are completed synchronically,natural antimicrobial dyes lawsone(2-hydroxy-1,4 naphthoquinone)was connected amino-groups by amine modification to the structure and the cotton cellulose was oxidized to give the dialdehyde cellulose,.The modified dyes and fiber took Schiff Base Reaction and then the dyes fixed on the fabric.Thus,the antibacterial finishing and dyeing process have been implemented successfully in one bath.2-hydroxy-1,4 naphthalene was synthesized by using 1,4-naphthalene as material in this paper.The molecular structure was determined by IR and NMR.4-nitroaniline as diazo component to coupling with lawsone to give diazo compound components of quinone.The amino naphthoquinone was obtained by using Raney Ni to catalyze reduction of the diazo compound.The cotton cellulose was oxidized by sodium periodate without light.Aldehyde group content is about 180mmol/g.The dyeing experiments were carried out with amino naphthoquinone on oxidized cotton cellulose,Because of the Schiff base reaction took place by amino groups and aldehyde groups,the modified naphthoquinone dyes fixed on the fabric with good color fastness.After testing,The fastness to acid and alkali reached 4-5 grade according to the fastness test reports.According to the antibacterial test,The cotton fabric dyed with modified dyes had better antibacterial activity while against Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae.The antibacterial rate of Staphylococcus aureus was more than 90% and The antibacterial rate of Klebsiella pneumoniae was more than 85% after 15 washing cycles,so the antibacterial property of antibacterial fabric is achieved.
