Chitosan has the function of hemostasis, analgesia, broad-spectrum antibiosis and so on,at the same time it is a non-toxic materials with good biocompatibility, able to accelerate wound healing, thus chitosan and its derivatives as a medical hemostatic material has broad application prospects. In this paper, through modifying chitosan by carboxyl, carboxymethyl chitosan was obtained, by carboxymethyl chitosan and calcium ion and zinc ion respectively complexing, carboxymethyl chitosan calcium and carboxymethyl chitosan zinc compound were synthesized. Using water extraction acid sinking method to extract the active components of scutellaria baicalensis, baicalin was obtained. Then mixing baicalin with the product which has the best hemostatic properties proportionally, to prepare the corresponding compound. The structures of samples were characterized by IR?XRD?SEM and MS, the hemostatic properties of all products was examined through a self-builted testing method of clotting and hemostatic performance. As shown in the results, through the characterization of structure, determining the carboxymethyl chitosan and carboxymethyl chitosan complex(Ca2+,Zn2+) were synthesized, the baicalin was extracted. Through the performance test, the results showed that both the modificated chitosan and its compounds have varying degress of hemostatic effect. The coagulation and hemostatic effect of carboxymethyl chitosan complex(Ca2+,Zn2+)was better than that of carboxymethyl chitosan, carboxymethyl chitosan was superior to the chitosan only. Comparison between carboxymethyl chitosan calcium and carboxymethyl chitosan zinc, carboxymethyl chitosan calcium had the shorter time of coagulation and hemostatic. But the mixed sample of baicalin an carboxymethyl chitosan calcium had the best effect, it may be selected as a novel hemostatic material.
