Energy conservation and emission reduction have been the essentials of the sustainable development of the textile industry, which is also an effective way for the industrial structure adjustment and upgrade from the rough type to low carbon, green and circular economy mode. How to effectively control the energy consumption and environmental pollution is the key measures for the sizing and desizing process. Except for the improvement of sizing technology, the development of new type of sizing that can be used at low temperature and ben easily desized and decomposed is a more effective direction.After the preparation of normal-temperature water soluble by using corn starch as raw materials, the physicochemical properties, the liquid and film properties, and the sizing quality of NTWS were systematically researched and analyzed to offer experimental references for the sizing technology at low temperature. Firstly, the NTWS corn starch with different normaltemperature water solubility was prepared by taking the principle and preparation technology in mind. Then, the physicochemical properties such as the morphology, thermal enthalpy change and the infrared absorption spectrum were studied by using corn starch as contrast. At the same time, the selection of the suitable NTWS for sizing was carried out by taken the slurry viscosity, adhesion strength and anti-aging performance as criterions. Secondly, the properties of NTWS corn starch size and size film were researched at different temperature from 60?-80?. The slurry performance was characterized by slurry viscosity, adhesion strength and light transmittance, while the size film performance was characterized by the strength of size, and size film abrasion index, when the NTWS corn starch which was selected was used as the research object. Finally, the single yarn sizing experiment using the 40 S pure cotton yarns was carried out at low temperature with NTWS corn starch, to optimize the sizing process parameters such as sizing temperature, sizing speed and sizing pressure. Additionally, the comparative analysis with the sizing performance with the commonly used high temperature textile sizing of oxidized starch was also employed to research and analyze the sizing performance of NTWS corn starch sizing performance, to provide the reference of low temperature sizing paste for the future research and development. The results show that:(1) Compared with corn starch, the granular of NTWS corn starch was distorted and some holes appeared, and the polarization cross phenomenon disappeared. At the same time, the gelatinization endothermic reaction disappeared, basic starch molecules in the hydroxyl and carboxyl increased, and the proportion of starch molecular skeleton of main chain structure had no obvious change.(2) With the improvement of the normal-temperature water solubility, the distortion degree of NTWS corn starch increased, slurry apparent viscosity decreased, adhesion dropped, and the light transmittance synchronously increased. When the normal-temperature water solubility was 95.48%, the highest degree in NTWS corn starch twisted, polarization phenomenon disappeared, DSC enthalpy curve was smooth, molecular chain structure change was not obvious, slurry viscosity was at 1.1mPa?s, best light transmittance was up to 88.29%, and adhesive strength slightly decreased to 48.97 N, that was still higher than the same one of the oxidized starch.(3) Under the high mixing temperature, the NTWS corn starch size had good property, while at low mixing temperature, the film property of NTWS corn starch was better. From 60? to 80?, the slurry had low viscosity and excellent stability, and the film had high breaking strength, low breaking elongation. That is to say, the influence of mixing temperature to film moisture absorption rate was not obvious. With the increase of mixing temperature, the slurry viscosity gradually reduced, the adhesive force and anti-aging performance increased, the breaking strength of the size film gradually reduce, the film abrasion gradually increased, and the film water soluble time decreased. When mixing temperature was under 70?, the light transmittance sharply fell, the breaking strength significantly increased, and the film abrasion greatly decreased.(4) After pre-wetting, the wear-resisting property was improved. The breaking strength increased with the increment of sizing temperature, while the sizing abrasion resistance decreased. The wear resistance improved with the increase of sizing speed. The sizing of the breaking strength and wear resistance obviously increased with the rise of sizing pressure. Compared with the oxidized starch, the sizing enhancement ratio and grinding ratio of the NTWS corn starch were higher than that of oxidized starch, the rate of grinding, in particular, far beyond the oxidized starch.Generally speaking, the NTWS corn starch has high normal-temperature water solubility, low viscosity and good stability, and the outstanding performance of film was at 60?. By using the NTWS corn starch, the sizing process can be completed at low temperature, and the sizing quality was much more excellent than that of high temperature sizing of oxidized starch,. Additionally, the mixing operation was simplified, the energy consumption of sizing was reduced when using NTWS corn starch. It is a kind of starch that can realize sizing at low temperature, can be easily desized and decomposed, in line with the green development, conservation and efficient use of resources of the mainstream trend in the development of the textile industry.
