This paper briefly describes the development of the tray and its classification, spread on the tray hydrodynamic and mass transfer performance. With sieve Runde tray, a new type of tray, as the research objects, which overcome the conventional sieve dual flow tray's narrow scope of operation and small operating flexibility. Then cold model experiments and hot model experiment research have been done for its unique innovation structure.The study of hydraulic performance on sieve Runde tray was performed in water-air system, based on the multifunctional combined tower of ?450, and select sieve Runde tray Ti, T2 and T3 as the research tray, these trays have fixed valves opening ratio the same, and total opening rate of 15%,25% and 35% respectively. The hydraulic performance such as dry plate pressure drop, Total plate pressure drop, height of clear liquid, average height of foam, flooding point gas velocity, gas volume fraction and operating flexibility has carried on the detailed research, then compared with rectangular Runde pore tray T* and conventional sieve dual flow tray selectively which both has the total opening rate of 21%. The experimental results show that tray T3 has the optimal hydraulic performance, its dry pressure drop is about 62%,38%,33%lower than the tray Ti, T2 and T*, Total plate pressure drop is about 75%, 49%,55%,42% lower than the tray Ti, T2, T* and T, height of clear liquid and average height of foam are more stable than tray T1 and T2,flooding point gas velocity is higher about 49%, 30%,15%,10% than the tray Ti, T2, T*and T, gas volume fraction is only high than trays T, but the operating range is greater, operating flexibility is higher 20%?51%,1%?48%, 9%?60%,41%?77% than the tray Ti, T2, T* and T. At the same time, correlation of dry plate pressure drop is obtained for tray T3 and Correlation of gas volume fraction are obtained for five types of dual-flow tray by sum of useful data and regressive equation. All of these are provide data reference for the development of the tray.The study of mass transfer performance on tray T3 was performed in volume fraction of 23% ethanol-water solution, based on the modular towers experiment device of ?148, examined the tower pressure of top and bottom heating power's influenced on the performance of mass transfer, checked the conclusion of the theoretical plate number and plate efficiency calculated by Pro II simulation software, and compared the mass transfer performance with dual-flow tray. The experimental results show that, tray Ta's mass transfer performance increases with the tower pressure of top's increases, and with the increase of bottom heating power increases. The simulating results are close to the observed data, and compared with dual-flow tray, the tray Ts's operating flexibility increased about 27% under the same steam gas velocity.In conclusion, the sieve Runde tray that fixed valves opening ratio is 33.3%, total opening rate of 35% has a better performance.
