In the present work,the application of OptiSizer spray platform in surface sizing of high-strength corrugated paper in # 16 Line of Zhejiang Jingxing Paper Co.,Ltd was demonstrated/evaluated.Furthermore,the main factors in controlling the sizing efficiency of cellulosic paper was identified,and the function mechanism related to surface sizing of OptiSizer spray platform was discussed.In the production of high-strength corrugated paper,the related processes including starch preparation system,the feeding system and the surface sizing agent were optimized for improving the surface sizing efficiency.The optimum conditions for the production of starch may be demonstrated as follows: the added ?-amylase amount of 0.02%(based on oven dry weight of starch),85?,treatment time of 15 min.Eventually,the starch colloid products with solid content of 20% and viscosity of 30-50 mPa.s at 65? can be obtained.A comparative study on the surface sizing application efficiency of AKD and styrene-acrylic surface sizing agents from different manufacturers was conducted.The suitable surface sizing agent was determined based on the following aspects,e.g.,Cobb value(Top/Back),water resistance performance,required addition amount and economic cost and nozzles clogging and sticking dryer issues.In comparison to styrene-acrylic surface sizing agent,AKD surface sizing agent was found to faclitate the smoothness of surface sizing process.When # F surface sizing agent was used in the producion,the qualified surface-sized paper products can be achieved,which had the Cobb value of 30/32(Top/Back)g/m2,water resistance of 55 s /45s(Top/Back,24 h)and 60s/50s(Top/Back,48h).Moreover,# B surface sizing agent was proved to exhibit two main limitations,i.e.,poor economic performance,and bad overall operation performance.Furthermore,the application of # C exerted negative effect on the water resistance performance of surface-sized paper.# D showed great limitation in the desired smoothness of operation process and economic cost.# E exhibited some disadvantage in water resistance performance of cellulosic paper.In contrast with # F,# C showed advantage in the decreased economic cost of paper production and exhibited similar effect in water resistance performance.Ultimately,according to the application efficiency and experimental data,# F and # C surface sizing agent products were determined to the promising candidates of industrial production of surface-sized paper.Furthermore,the sizing feeding system was evaluated and developed.Under the optimized condition,colloid viscosity fell off from 6.8-16 m Pa.s to 8-12 m Pa.s,the fluctuation in paper ring crush strengthwater resistance performance was easy to be controlled,thus leading to the improved operation efficiency of paper machine and decreased labour intensity.In addition,the frequency of paper breaking at surface sizing section was distinctly decreased,showing a drop of 20 times per month.
