The aim of this paper was to prepare closed-cell glass foam products with waste glass as raw material,talc and SiC powders as foaming agent,and KNO3 as foaming promoter through powder sintering method.Finally,the coloring principle of glass foam was conducted briefly.The influence s of talc addition,particle size of SiC,KNO3 addition and the species and addition of colorant on the microstructure and physical properties of glass foam were studied.The chemical composition,phase structure,microstructure and compressive strength were analysised by X-ray fluorescence spectrometry,XRD,SEM and Universal Testing Machine.At the same time the bulk density,porosity and water absorption of samples were also analyzed.The result showed that a bulk density of 0.38g/cm3,porosity of 84.8% and 5.3% water absorption and compressive strength of 5.6MPa of samples were prepared using talc as foaming agent sintered at 850°C for 45 min.As the particle size of SiC was reduced from 10 ?m to 2.5 ?m,the bulk density of samples reduecd from 0.34 g/cm3 to 0.29 g/cm3,the water absorption of samples was below 3.4%,and the compressive strength of galss foams was above 1.56 MPa by using 0.5wt% SiC as foaming agent sintered at 925°C for 30 min.The 0.51wt% addition of KNO3 could remarkably lower the bulk density of samples from 0.34 g/cm3 to 0.29 g/cm3 with SiC as foaming agent sintered at 925°C,which means that better bulk density and compressive strength values could be obtained at a lower sintering temperature through adding a small amount of KNO3.In the experiment colored glass foams were also prepared by ion coloring method.At last the effect of waste glass,foaming agent,colorant and the atmosphere of the fuenace on the displayed colors of the glass foams was stated.
