In recent years, how to improve the automation level of the slab continuous casting machine and improving the quality of the continuous casting slab has become the development trend of slab continuous casting production. Slab continuous casting segment is the most important machine in the slab continuous casting machine system. After long-term research, applied in slab continuous casting segment, ASTC( Automatic Strand Taper Control) technology can meet the above requirements.Once applied in slab continuous casting segment, ASTC technology can achieve the following objectives:ASTC technology can achieve adjustment of the segment roll gap dynamically, can also be adjusted even if in the casting process of production. Highly reliable operation. At the end of the casting operator can adjust roll gap which matches the next round casting production in a minute quickly and accurately. Shorten the time between casting productions and improve productivity and machine availability, reduce labor costs.In combination with the ASTC technological software package, it permits a rapid and automatic adjustment of the segment roll gap, as well as online dynamic soft reduction capability and soft clamping capability. Dynamic soft reduction uses the thermal tracing model to calculate the liquidus and solidus point in the interior of the continuous casting slab,roll gap is controlled to reduce in the calculated soft reduction area dynamically, and improve the internal quality of continuous casting slab.This paper from three aspects carries out the applied research of ASTC technique for continuous casting slab segments.Selection and establish for the ASTC subcontrol system. Of segment used on various ASTC components are introduced, the new type of segment controller is introduced.Old and new communications links adopted by the ASTC subcontrol system, the practicality and advantages are compared. Several segment roll gap control schemes for the ASTC subcontrol system are described, compared and redesigned.Electrical debugging and calibration of the ASTC subcontrol control system.
