The paper researched a new type of filler (named TL-1) and analyzed the feasibility of TL-1 as filler of making paper compared with Calcium carbonate and Talc. Wheat straw pulp added TL- 1, Calcium carbonate and Talc made hand sheet respectively, then measuring mechanical strength of hand sheet. Reed pulp and Softwood pulp were treated like wheat straw pulp. Finally, it is feasible to TL-1 as papermaking filler.Firstly, the physical properties of Calcium carbonate, talc and TL-1 were analyzed. The particle size of TL-1 is larger than Calcium carbonate and Talc, but the particle size distribution width of Calcium carbonate are much larger than Talc and TL-1; The specific surface area of TL-1 are much bigger than Calcium carbonate and Talc,and the specific surface area of Calcium carbonate and Talc are similar; Sedimentation volume of Talc are larger than Calcium carbonate and TL-1, and the settling velocity of Talc is slower than the settling velocity of Calcium carbonateand the TL-1. The particle size distribution of TL-1 are more uniform, the specific surface area is larger, and sedimentation rate is moderate, so that TL-1 can be used as papermaking filler.Then determine the amount of CPAM. The dosages of CPAM influnce Zeta potential of pulp and retention of filler, For wheat straw pulp, the optimum dosages of CPAM is 0.03%according to the experimental phenomenon and results. For reed pulp,the optimum dosages of CPAM is 0.03%.Finally, TL-1 are analyzed the feasibility of TL-1 as filler of wheat straw pulp compared with Calcium carbonate and Talc, and the optimum dosages of TL-1 is 20% because the physical properties, optical properties, ash contentand retention of hand sheet are better, the whiteness 74.4%ISO, folding strength 14 times, opacity 88.1%, ash content 14.2% and retention 43.8% respectively. TL-1 are analyzed the feasibility of TL-1 as filler of reed pulp compared with Calcium carbonate and Talc, and the optimum dosages of TL-1 is 20% because the physical properties, optical properties, ash contentand retention of hand sheet are better,the whiteness 75.6%ISO, folding strength 26 times, opacity 84.0%, ash content 13.9%,retention 49.7% respectively. TL-1 are analyzed the feasibility of TL-1 as filler of softwood pulp compared with Calcium carbonate and Talc, and the optimum dosages of TL-1 is 20%because the physical propertiesand optical properties of hand sheet are better, the whiteness 80.4%ISO, folding strength 39 times, opacity 79.4% respectively. To sum up, the TL-1 as filler of three kinds of pulp is feasible, and the optimal dosages of TL-1 is 20%.When the dosages of TL-1 was 20%, writing paper are made by 90%-95% reed pulp and 10%-5% softwood pulp, it is reasonable because writing paper can reach related indicators reserved by the state.
