Safety production is the lifeline of coal enterprises, and the miners' health is its manifestation, which is related to the stability of the economic and social development. With widely application of computer technology in the coal industry, the advanced technology emerges at the right moment for coal mine disaster prevention and safety production. And ontology served as a way of knowledge representation in the field of artificial intelligence, introducing it into the coal mine safety monitoring system, could not only provide a unified knowledge management system for the field of coal mine safety production, but also realize the logical reasoning. Combined with reasoning mechanism, it could find implicit knowledge in underground situational information, which is conducive to realize the coal mine safety accident warning better as well as provides guarantee for the plain coal production activities.On the basis of understanding the developing situation of ontology at home and abroad, this paper studied the relevant knowledge of domain ontology further, discussed ontology construction methods and reasoning tools, provided an ontology modeling method that is applicable to coal mine, used Protégé ontology modeling tool, and built a coal mine heading face domain ontology. By analyzing domain knowledge of coal mine safety production, this paper defined classes, the class hierarchy, attributes of class and instances which finally resulted in an ontology framework; compared the most current ontology detection tools, the paper applied Protégé's own reasoning machine FaCT++ to check the consistency of mine domain ontology; according to three coal regulations on heading face, by the method of analyzing the format and requirement of custom rules, this paper established a set of applicable ontology inference rule of heading face in coal mine safety production area; combining ontology model and custom rule set, applying Jena reasoning engine, the paper designed and realized an ontology model intelligent reasoning system of coal mine safety production area.Based on the domain knowledge of coal mine heading face, the paper applied the concept, theory and method of ontology to coal mine safety production area comprehensively and systematically, and then combined with three coal regulations and Jena inference engine, which finally realized the intelligent reasoning system for down-hole situation information. This system provided the function of reasoning implicit information for current monitoring system in coal mine, and supported early safety accident warning for coal mine, which could promote the research of relevant technology for intelligent reasoning in terms of coal mine safety production area.
