The technology of WEDM depends on high temperature cutting metals, which produced by discharge phenomena between workpiece electrode and tool electrode.WEDM is a special way of of cutting metals without cutting force, and has been widely used in aerospace, mold manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, automobile manufacturing and other industries.As WEDM has a special way of processing compared with the traditional processing and machining, EDM machine and conventional milling machine is quite different. The motion controlling system is the key technology of NC system, and has direct effect on Machining accuracy and efficiency. This paper researched the motion control system for WEDM.Based on the HNC-818 NC system, which has high integration and reliability, this paper developes the motion control system for EDM, researches the overall programme based on NCUC bus software and hardware platform. The EDM NC system high-speed servo interruption control, the inverse interpolation, the state of discharge's adaptive control, and the discharge gap's online test for EDM NC system are researched. Based on the LINUX platform, the software of the motion control system for EDM is designed, and the module of the G-code interpreter for EDM, the power-down protection, and the discharging state's detection and judge are designed. Based on the HNC-818 system, the software and hardware testing platform for the motion control system are built, and validated the feasibility of the motion control system for EDM, which is based on NCUC-bus, laid solid foundation for developing high-performance EDM machine using national NC system.
