Rare earth mine has a very high strategic value in the national development as a scarce resource in the world, especially China's unique ion-type rare earth mine, which has important applications in the field of aerospace, military and other high technology. However, for its most mines being in remote hinterland with inconvenient traffic, the phenomenon of folk illegal mining was widespread, which not only result in waste of resources, but also seriously damaged the vegetation, soil and other ecological environment of mining area. With the development of remote sensing technology,it has unparalleled advantages in the acquisition of large-scale real-time information on the ground, especially in the area of traffic jam and dense vegetation, which can save a lot of manpower and material resources. In this paper, remote sensing technology was used to dynamically monitor the development of rare earth mines and the changes of mining area types and vegetation cover information. The main research contents and results are as follows:1?The method of remote sensing relative radiometric correction for PIF was studied and discussed, which greatly saves the time of choosing PIF points and reduces the subjectivity of selection, and the correlation coefficient of choosing PIF reaches the precision of 0.98.At the same time the correction effect was analyzed by using the statistics of typical surface spectrum, root mean square error and NDVI difference, finally the results show that the correction effect is ideal.2?The texture information assists to extract the feature information, which causes the classification accuracy and kappa coefficient were improved to 4.1% and 5.2% compared with the method of only using spectral information. The method was applied to multi-temporal data and statistical classification results, analysis found that the area of rare earth mining continues to expand from 1990 to 2010;the distribution pattern developed from the initial sporadic distribution to the contiguous distribution;although there is a certain artificial reclamation and natural restoration, but with the expansion of the scale of rare earth mining, rare earth mining desertification is more prominent.3?Study on the influence of rare earth mining on ecological environment from the perspective of vegetation coverage, and use high resolution UAV data for reference,so the accuracy of different vegetation coverage estimation methods was evaluated accordingly. And also proves that the three band gradient difference model has good applicability to the extraction of vegetation cover information in rare earth mining area. And the paper uses the vegetation coverage grading image to carry out the statistical and analysis temporal and spatial change,at the same time the spatial change relationship between vegetation cover and rare earth mining is studied by superimposing analysis and buffer analysis with rare earth mining information.Analysis found that the effect of early mining on vegetation cover is not the leading effect. With the expansion of rare earth mining, the destruction of surrounding vegetation is becoming more and more important, which gradually becomes the main factor affecting vegetation cover.
