Electrospinning is one of the most common technique to produce nanoscale or microscale fibers,which have excellent properties including small diameter,high surface area and high porosity.The diameters of the fibers was typically one to two orders of magnitude smaller than conventional solution or melt-spun fibers.Interest on electrospinning has been growing quickly because of the possibility for fabricating productions used in tissue engineering,filtration,selective adsorption and drug delivery systems.Brominated butyl rubber(BIIR)is a brominated product of butyl rubber.Besides good physical and chemical properties as the same as butyl rubber,BIIR possess more useful properties:(1)improved vulcanization rates due to the introduction of bromines which increase the polarity of the molecular chain,(2)improved thermostability and compatibility with other rubbers.BIIR is mainly used in the field of tyre,damping,and cork of medicine bottle.In order to answer the request from BIIR manufacturer to develop extra values for BIIR,we produced BIIR for microfibrous membranes by electrospinning,which may be used in medical protective clothing,breathing mask,sensors,filtration,and sound damping etc.Nowadays,there is few study on BIIR elestrospinning.One of the important reasons is that BIIR is elastomeric,which is quite different from resin.It is hard to avoid BIIR fiber sticking together due to serious swelling or merging during electrospinning and post electrospinning.BIIR membranes with good microfiber morphology have been fabricated by electrospinning,which is as good as resin.Better technological conditions such as solvent,composition,concentration,electrospinning parameters and postprocessing technics,have been found.BIIR with a bromine content 1.9% and Mooney viscosity of 32 and BIIR content 10%,with solvent of THF,release agent of zinc stearate of 8%,respectively are the best.BIIR electrospinning solution is Bingham fluid,with viscosity of 126mPa·s.When the solution is electrospunned at 15 kV,0.1mm/min,20 cm from the tip to the collector,the membrane has the best structure.The morphology of the membranes was the best after frozen.After coating zinc stearate on aluminum foil,the membrane was easy to peel off.Some of the fillers with antibacterial or conductive properties were added into the polymer solution,and the fiber membrane with good surface morphology was well prepared by electrospinning.The results show that the brominated butyl rubber fiber membrane has the intrinsic antibacterial ability.When the usage of carbon nanotubes is 10wt%,the brominated butyl rubber fiber membrane is conductive and the mechanical properties of the fiber membrane are improved.These results will lay a solid foundation for application of BIIR fiber membrane in the field of medicine dressings,conductive bandages,sensors,filtration,etc.
