Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS)is widely used in the fields of automobile,housing,textile and chemical industry because of its high strength,good toughness,and easy processing.However,the LOI of ABS is only 18.5%,is a flammable material.At present,the most common flame retardants in ABS are halogen / antimony synergistic flame retardants.But their use has been limited due to safety and environmental concerns.Ammonium polyphosphate(APP)as the main component of the halogen-free flame retardant becomes to the main research direction,but the disadvantages of APP such as hygroscopic,easy to precipitate,poor matrix compatibility,large amount of addition,short flame retardant effect and poor mechanical properties limites the use of APP.Therefore,in this paper,MAPP(epoxy-curing APP)and DPER(Double pentaerythritol)as the main components of intumescent flame retardants were used to prepare flame-retardant composites by melt blending with ABS,MAPP,DPER and ABSHR.The morphology and structure of the composites were analyzed by LOI,CONE,thermal properties,mechanical properties and rheological properties.The effects of the ratio of MAPP and DPER,the addition of IFR and ABSHR on the composite properties were investigated.Selected MAPP and DPER as the main components of intumescent flame retardants,and explored the effect of the ratio of MAPP to DPER and the addition of IFR on ABS comprehensive performance.The results showed that when the amount of IFR is 35wt% and the ratio of MAPP to DPER is 2:1,the LOI of composites reaches 28.6%,UL-94 V-0,The tensile strength and flexural strength are 39 MPa and 74 MPa respectively,but the impact strength is only 2.5 kJ·m-2,which showes the characteristics of high rigidity and low toughness.The combustion performance of pure ABS and ABS/IFR composites was tested by CONE.The results show that the addition of IFR reduced HRR,EHC,MLR,THR,explaining the good flame retardant properties.The addition of flame retardant has a great influence on the toughness of ABS flame retardant material,the elastomer ABSHR was selected in flame retardant material toughening modification.The results showed that the impact of composites improves with the increase of ABSHR.When the addition of ABSHR is 10wt%,the impact strength of ABS/IFR/ABSHR composites was 3.0 kJ·m-2,increased by 20 percent.
