With the modernization advancing, the role of pipeline transportation in economic development has become increasingly prominent. In the oil and gas industry, the pipeline is the most important means for oil and gas transportation. However, with the increase in the pipeline's running time, the accidents caused by corrosion have caused huge economic losses and casualties. Regular inspection of the pipeline can help keeping an eye on the running conditions of the pipeline, thence not only ensuring the safety of public property and human life, but also reducing the maintenance costs of the pipeline. As the main part of the pipeline transportation, buried pipelines imposes great difficulty to the regular inspection of the pipeline. It is an urgent demand that strengthening the regular inspection, detecting and positioning defects of pipeline timely. In this paper, the detection method of buried pipeline is studied.The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1) The study and analysis on the current mainstream pipeline internal inspection and external inspection technologies in pipeline inspection industry are carried out firstly. A fast detection method of buried pipeline based on PCM (pipeline current method) and metal magnetic memory detection technology is proposed on the foundation of the study on the principles and characteristic of different detection methods.(2) The study and deduction on the principle of PCM method are proceeded and the factors influencing the detection result are summarized according to the detection process. The advantages and disadvantages of PCM method and its application range are described.(3) The analysis on the principle of magnetization are proceeded, and the detection principle of metal magnetic memory detection technology is explained in the view of energy balance. A series of experiments have been carried out to explore the way that different factors in the inspection process affect on the results, such as the direction of pipeline, anticorrosion coating,liftoff and so on.(4) A series of field experiments based on PCM method and metal magnetic memory detection technology are proposed to meet the demand of rapid detection method. The quality classification of buried pipelines is carried out by analyzing the results of the experiments, and the validity of this method is verified by excavation and inspection using other non-destructive detection methods.
