The research work is supported by the project "The technology integration and demonstration of the whole procedure mechanized production line of bamboo chopping board" sponsored by the Key Project of China Spark Program(Grant No.2015GA790002).The present research is designed to resolve backward automation and low efficiency production of bamboo ware enterprises,which have greatly restricted the improvement of bamboo batten production efficiency.In this study,based on automatic sorting technology,embedded technology and sensor technology,a system pertaining to bamboo batten edge defect detection and sorting was designed and developed,in order to make it possible to detect edge defects in bamboo batten,control the segment photograpy of cameras,and automatically sort out six kinds of bamboo batten.This approach can be of great significance in improving the production efficiency of bamboo product processing enterprises and enhancing the automation of modern agricultural products in China.The main content of the study are as follows.By further investigating the characteristics of bamboo batten and the failure of machines in detecting defective edge of bamboo batten,a detection device to resolve these problems was designed:A paste board was used to closely fit the edge and corner,in order to assess the gap size through the light intensity penetrating the crevice.In this way,the edge of bamboo batten can be successfully detected.In consideration of bamboo batten bending variances,a compression mechanism was created in an attempt to locate the bamboo cane in the detection zone.Apart from this,a procedure was also developed to simultaneously identify the defective of four edges of bamboo batten.In response to existing problems in the photo collection of long bamboo batten during sorting operation,a segment photography method was thereby put forward.By calculating the timing and number of set interruptions,the camera was designed to photograph bamboo batten in separate segments.In addition,a device was developed to detect surface defect and colors.In virtue of photoelectric switches installed in different zones to detect position of bamboo batten,two cameras were consecutively controlled to photograph the whole bamboo batten through separate segments.By analyzing the failures of sorting devices in triggering sensors,which led to failure in all subsequent sorting,a solution was proposed by installing only two photoelectric switches that would locate the bamboo canes.In addition,a sorting and controlling device was designed to make it feasible to sort out six types of bamboo canes.By applying the pneumatic sorting method,the device flips the bamboo cane into categorized sorting grooves,which allows the automatic sorting of long bamboo canes.
