The synthesis of monomer experiment is divided into four steps with methyl p-hydroxybenzoate and 6-ehloro-n-hexanol as starting materials.Two novel liquid crystal monomers of acrylics have been synthesized by appropriate reactions.The purity of liquid crystal monomer,thermal behaviour and the structures of the synthesized liquid crystal monomers were characterized by gas chromatography(GC),infrared spectroscopy(IR),nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(1 HNMR),differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and polarized optical microscopy(POM).The second part of the works focus on the optimization of the compounding process of the liquid crystals.Based on the preparation of acrylate liquid crystal monomer ?,?and the other ten different acrylic ester liquid crystal monomers,compounds were made according to different monomers ratios and the optimal mixing method is selected.Structures and properties of the liquid crystal mixed were characterized by their melting point,infrared spectroscopy(IR)and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC).Analysis was also conducted on the images taken of the mixed crystals.In the third part,curing reaction was studied on the liquid crystal monomers and mixed crystals.The experiment explored the fixed uv intensity,curing time,different liquid crystal monomer respectively which have effects on acrylic ester liquid crystal film.Structures and properties of the liquid crystal film were analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry(DSC),infrared spectroscopy(IR),and polarized optical microscopy(POM).
