As the composite material can be designed, it is increasingly used in the manufacture of high-speed and large aspect ratio drive shafts. In the design and manufacture of high-performance composite shafts, dynamic characteristics are important factors that must be considered. Because dynamic characteristics will directly affect the life, efficiency and safety of drive shafts. Therefore,in order to improve the characteristics of composite shafts, the dynamic analysis and experimental study of the composite rotating shaft are very important.This composite shaft is a composite hollow shaft with metal shaft heads at both ends. This paper mainly studies the dynamic characteristics of the composite rotating shaft, including natural vibration characteristics of the composite shaft and dynamic characteristics of the composite rotor system by using theoretical analysis and vibration experimental methods. Firstly, the ANSYS software is used to establish the dynamic finite element model of the composite rotating shaft, and the vibration modal analysis and rotor dynamics analysis of the composite shafts are performed.Secondly, the vibration experimental modal analysis and rotor dynamic experiment of composite shaft specimen are conducted, then the first three natural frequencies of composite shafts and the first three natural frequencies versus rotating speed curves of composite rotating shafts are measured. The experiment results are compared with finite element calculation results, the effectiveness of the finite element model and analysis process is verified. Finally, the dynamic finite element model is used to predict the effects of different fiber layer angles and different fiber materials on the natural frequency and critical speed of the rotating composite shaft.
