To improve the yield of medium-heavy steel plate mills,raise the productivity of arranging the plates and selecting raw materials,cater to a market that demands large-scale orders with various specifications,this paper designs a system featuring intelligent manufacturing process and selection of raw materials,based on technological constraints in steel industry.This work analyzed layoutissues of making rectangularplate both in China and overseas,and evaluatedthe layout and material-selecting plans at major mediumheavy plate mills.According to the analysis and functional requirements,the researcher suggested an optimal layout plan that highlights four functional modules: order management;rolling layout;material-selecting;layout rule management.Taking into account the rules for optimizing the layout of rec tangular plate,several constraints as well as the problems that come with raw material size,a sole layout specification,or those with various specifications,four models are respectively designed using algorithms such as Tabu search.The four are integer programming improved model,constraint programming model,calculation model for the layouts of multiple specifications and calculation model for raw material size.In addition,with optimizing relatedalgorithms during the research,the functions of arranging rectangular plate and material-selecting were realized through computer graphic simulation.On top of it,the issues regarding irregular layouts were investigated,which led to the rules for determiningconcave-convex feature of polygon.Given that the envelop method employed to identify the smallest rectangle,the layout problem of making a polygonal plate translated to that of a rectangular one.Then,in terms of the issues about irregular layouts,a method was suggested,which attempted to translate it into the layout of polygon.Finally,based on the application of a three-layer architecture,this research developed an intelligent system that optimizes the layouts and selections for raw materials.The actual performance of this system was recorded and compared with the data testing.The results revealed that this system accomplishes the goal of improving the yield of medium-heavy plates and the productivity for designing layouts and selecting raw materials during the manufacturing process.
