Small complex parts are widely used in aerospace, electronic products and medical equipment. There are some shortcomings when machining these small complex parts using traditional size precision machine tools, such as waste of space, waste of sources and waste of energy. To overcome these problems, five-axis micro-machine tool with the same function as traditional precision machine tool is developed. In this paper, NC machining methods for five-axis micro-machine tool were studied, and the main content is listed as following.(1) The models of twelve combination by three type of fundamental rotation axis and three moving axes are established. The formula for converting the tool position data to the motion data of each axis of the machine tool is derived. The causes of the nonlinear error in the five-axis NC machining are analyzed.A simplified mathematical model of nonlinear error is established. The position of the maximum nonlinear error is deduced, which provides the basis for the adaptive linear machining method.(2) Based on the UG post processor, the post-processing procedures of the five-axis CNC micro-machine tool is developed, including the preparation of machine tool parameters, program ,tool path parameters and format of NC code. The custom commands is programmed using TCL language, achieving the non-linear error check, and converting the the cutter location data into NC program directly.(3) The virtual machining simulation system of self-developed five-axis CNC micro-machine tool was established using VERICUT software. Problems like interference,over-cut and undercut are checked out using this virtual machining simulation system, ensuring the correction of the NC program.(4) Machining experiment of the engine blade surface is accomplished using the self-developed micro NC machine tool, verifying the correctness of the post-process.
