Through pulping and papermaking technology,the tobacco “waste”,including tobacco stem,leaf and powder,was made as the reconstituted tobacco whose characteristic was close to natural tobacco and which was filled in natural tobacco.As the main source of reconstituted tobacco pulp fiber,the lignin content of tobacco stem was very high.Because lignin pyrolysis released catechin and alkyl catechin,promoting cancer activity,and the amount of tobacco stem in cigarette products was limited.At present,most researchers and manufacturers paid more attention to the extraction and coating of aroma substances in reconstituted tobacco raw materials,and ignored the lignin,which had the adverse effect on smoke and paper-process reconstituted tobacco.Based on the analysis of the properties of tobacco stem,this paper studied the green process of the effective removal of tobacco lignin and the effect on the appearance,physical properties,smoke index and quality of tobacco stem substrate.Firstly,the characteristic of the paper-process reconstituted tobacco raw material was studied in this paper.The result showed that the holocellulose content in tobacco stem and fragment was very low,which was 32.2% and 28.96% respectively.The lignin content of tobacco stems was higher than that of tobacco fragment,which was 14.76%.The hot water extract content of them was very high,which reached to 46.07% and 58.09% respectively.After hot water extraction,soluble substances which were attached to the cell wall and cell cavity of tobacco stem and fragment,such as alkaloid and pectic substance,were dissolved and the contour of fiber cells and parenchyma cells were more clearly.Besides that,the surface of ductal cell became rough.There were a large number of non-fiber elements in tobacco stem and fragment and their shape was different.The content of fiber cells was low and the fiber length was short,which was 0.32 mm and 0.18 mm respectively.Secondly,the lignin in tobacco stem was extracted by high boiling solvent method.A rapid and accurate method for quantitative determination of lignin in liquid phase was established.The removal efficiency of lignin in tobacco stem was studied with water,ethanol water solution and [Mmim]DMP as solvent.The result showed that compared with water and ethanol,the removal rate of lignin in tobacco stem was the highest.Under the condition of 80?,25 min,the material liquid ratio of 1:15,the removal rate reached 22.60%,about 5 times of the conventional hot water extraction.The results of GC/MS analysis showed that nicotine was one of the important components of tobacco,and its relative mass fraction was the highest in the extract.Water and ethanol were helpful to extract the aroma components in tobacco stems,but the removal efficiency of lignin was poor.Ionic liquid was alkalescent and it could not only make the lignin broken into smaller molecules dissolved out,also contributed to the new hydrogen nicotine and some aroma substances dissolution.Finally,the beating performance,substrate performance,smoke index and sensory quality of tobacco stem after different solvent extraction were studied.The result showed that at the same beating speed,the beating degree of tobacco stem after ionic liquid extraction was the highest,and then the water and ethanol extraction tobacco stem,the none-extraction was the lowest.At the same beating degree,the fiber dispersion degree of tobacco stem after ionic liquid extraction was better than the other tobacco stem,and its physical properties were also the best,mainly in its tensile strength,thickness and air permeability,which were beneficial to coating.The smoke index and sensory quality of tobacco stem after different solvent extraction were different.After extraction with ionic liquid,the smoke index,such as TPM,nicotine,water,tar and CO were better,and the score of o sensory quality was higher than the other tobacco stem.Because the tobacco stem after the ionic liquid extraction,a large number of nicotine,phenols,esters and lignin and other substances was dissolved out,so that harmful substances in the combustion pyrolysis was reduced,thereby improving its taste and enhancing the quality of recombinant tobacco.
