Electrical discharge machining(EDM),which is an important technology,is one of the non traditional machining methods of early.EDM is capable of machining any electrically conductive material regardless of its hardness,strength,toughness,and brittleness.In the EDM process,the material removal is known to be facilitated by melting and vaporization of the materials by the electrical discharge in discharge gap between the workpiece and tool electrode.EDM is playing an increasing important role in the field of processing complex cavity as well as high strength and hardness conductive material which is difficult to processing by the traditional machining methods.EDM is widely used in the industry of mould,aero and aviation,precision machinery,automobile car and medicine.However,the manual polishing is needed after the process of EDM,especially in the area of mould which is difficult to directly meet the use requirement.Meanwhile the traditional EDM has a big limitation in the manufacture efficiency and the traditional EDM work fluid is kerosene which has a lot of disadvantage,such as Inflammable,volatile and easy decomposition.So the research of water based working fluid of the EDM technology will have the practical application value and theoretical significance.The arc discharge power supply was designed based on full bridge inversion.The power supply was able to supply any large discharge current and any discharge period under 600 A.the pulse power control cabinet is builted based on the pulse power.The EDM processing control interface is developed based on visual basic.The pulse power and the EDM machine are controlled through the interface technology.The Aluminum powder water based working fluid with different concentration is configured based on the traditional water based working fluid.By adding different emulsifier,the stability of the powder mixed working fluid is researched,and then the best emulsifier is choosed.The machining experiment device of powder mixed EDM is designed.The electric parameters,non electrical parameters which has big effect on the machining efficiency,surface roughness of workpiece and tool electrode loss of the EDM processing is researched.Then the different EDM Processing parameters Suitable for different processing requirements is got.The single-pulse discharge system is designed,with the help of Oscilloscope,metallographic microscopes and stereoscopic microscope,the breakdown mechanism,the morphology of ablation and characteristics of electrode and the workpiece after machining is analysed and researched.The mold of tire pattern is machining by the sinking EDM.
