Dense medium separation(DMS)is one of the development trends in current mineral processing,and the DMS technology has been applied more and more to the ore separation.Therefore,it is necessary to study the DMS technology,especially the characteristics of dense medium suspension and the related equipment.In this paper,the characteristics of ferrosilicon dense medium suspension would be focused on,and the law of dense medium suspension was deep-going experimental studied.This paper studied the influence of the size distribution of ferrosilicon dense medium on the properties of dense medium suspension,and the researches found that the smaller the D50 of the dense medium,the bigger the viscosity of the dense medium suspension,and the better the stability of the dense medium suspension.However,the content of coarse particles(+200 mesh)in the dense medium has a certain influence on the viscosity of dense medium suspension,so that the dense medium suspension maded up by dense medium with a smaller D50 has a smaller viscosity an better stability.On the basis of this,the properties of dense medium suspension maded up by ferrosilicon and nonmagnetic material(kaolin)were also studied experimentally.When the viscosity of dense medium suspension was less than 80 mPa·s,the nonmagnetic material content of dense medium suspension in each condition were explored,and the limit value of nonmagnetic material of dense medium suspension in different condition were obtained.In this paper,the thickening law of dense medium suspension in thickening cyclone under different density of feed suspension was explored.The studies found that the thickening cyclone can improve the properties of the feed suspension,the density of the underflow suspension was increased greatly,as the same time we can obtain the overflow suspension with low density,low concentration and low content of magnetic material.The results show that the viscosity and stability of the overflow suspension were smaller than the underflow suspension,and with the increasing of the density of feed suspension,the viscosities and stabilities of the overflow and underflow suspension increased gradually.And when the density of feed suspension increased form 2.0 g/cm3 to 2.8 g/cm3,the density difference of the overflow and underflow of thickening cyclone decreased gradually;the nonmagnetic content of overflow suspension decreased gradually,the nonmagnetic content of underflow suspension increased gradually;the magnetic size of overflow suspension increased gradually,the magnetic size of underflow suspension decreased gradually.That is,with the increase of the density of feed suspension,the thickening effect of dense medium suspension in thickening cyclone is weakened.In this paper,the conclusion of the research on the properties of dense medium suspension and the thickening law of thickening cyclone can provide a certain reference basis for DMS,and it also opens a new direction for follow-up study at the same time.
