The rapid urbanization in China comes with several economic, social, and environmental issues, most of which are related to land use.Land urbanization closely related to new-type urbanization strategy, transformation of economic development, farmland protection, sustainable development, research concerning land urbanization has become the focus in the area. Moreover, recent years have witnessed a rapid land-centered development in China.Revenues of land selling are essential in starting urbanization and extension of the city's investment. This study starts from the perspective of green development to investigate the impacts of land urbanization and land finance. This paper addresses three main issues. The first concerns the spatial-temporal characteristics of land urbanization quality(LUQ)in the 30 Chinese provinces in the past decade.Further, this paper established evaluation index system of LUQ from four aspects: suitability of land urbanization, social, economic and ecological benefits of urban land use.The second part of this paper analyzed causal relationship between the land urbanization quality and carbon emissions there exist bidirectional causality between land urbanization quality and carbon emissions across the country. The third part contributes to the study of land-growth-environment nexus as to investigate the impact of land urbanization, land finance on carbon emissions. The empirical results show that: there is autocorrelation and agglomeration effect on LUQ in our country;there exist bidirectional long-run causal relation between carbon emission and LUQ on the national scale;land urbanization quality contributes to reducing carbon emissions in all areas, with its effects largest in the Central region, followed by the Eastern, and the Western ranked at last;economic growth and industrial structure still serve as leading determinants of carbon emissions.Further,we maintain that emphasis should be given to perfect the land requisition system and rural land conversion market during the process of 13 th Five Year Plan(2016-2020).Specifically,to promote the diversification of land transfer,to take full account of regional differences, and separate policy focus can contribute to emission reduction and land use.
