China has been experiencing rapid economic development since the reform and opening to the outside world,accompanied by such problems as excessive population concentration,resource shortage and environmental destruction.The contradiction between economic and ecological development has become a realistic problem that restricts the sustainable development of China's economy.The Yangtze River economic belt plays an extremely important role in the overall development strategy of the country as an emerging pole of economic growth.However,the Yangtze River economic belt is now facing the problems of irrational industrial structure and serious pollution of the river basin.To achieve the upgrading of the industrial structure and environmental pollution in the Yangtze River economic belt is not only important for the future development but also of reference to the sustained development of the national economy.This paper reviews the related research at home and abroad and industrial upgrading and environmental pollution and the theoretical basis of industrial upgrading and environmental pollution are analyzed.At the same time to build a theoretical model analysis of the impact of environmental pollution between the industrial upgrading effect.This paper measures the industrial upgrading and environmental pollution index based on the index data of 104 cities in the Yangtze River economic belt from 2003 to 2015,and explores the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of industrial upgrading and environmental pollution in the Yangtze River Economic Zone.Finally,the dynamic panel model and the spatial panel model are used to measure the industrial upgrading index and environmental pollution index.This paper uses the robustness test method to retest the measurement results,and empirically studies the impact of industrial upgrading on environmental pollution in the Yangtze River Economic zone.The theoretical results shows that the level of industrialization will change with the change of factor endowments in the process of economic development,and the impact of industrial upgrading on environmental pollution will change accordingly.In the initial stage of industrialization,the country has comparative advantages in the field of pollution products and industrial development depends mainly on the accumulation of material capital.At the same time,industrial upgrading will exacerbate environmental pollution.In the later period of industrialization development,the country has comparative advantages in the cleaner products,and the industrial development will mainly depend on the accumulation of human capital.At the same time,industrial upgrading will reduce environmental pollution.Generally speaking,there is a nonlinear influence relation between environmental pollution and industrial upgrading.Industrial upgrading and environmental pollution evolution characteristics shows that the Yangtze River economic belt industrial upgrading the overall level is higher and the rate of change gradually slow,the Yangtze River middle reaches,the overall level of industrial upgrading showed an increasing trend.Among them,Shanghai,Wuhan,Nanjing,Changsha,Kunming and other cities in the industrial upgrading level in the forefront of the Yangtze River Economic Belt.The environmental pollution in the Yangtze River economic belt is becoming more and more serious and the regional environmental pollution gap is widening.The pollution degree of the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River is significantly higher than that of the lower reaches.Among them,Bazhong,Mount Huangshan,Suining,Suizhou,Zhangjiajie and other cities,the most serious environmental pollution.The environmental pollution of the Yangtze River Economic Belt in space has significant agglomeration characteristics and agglomeration is increasing,agglomeration effects of the city is mainly distributed in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt region,negative agglomeration effects of the city is mainly distributed in the upper and middle reaches of the Yangtze River Economic Belt area.The results show that there is a "inverted U" relationship between the industrial upgrading and environmental pollution in the three watersheds of the Yangtze River Basin,the upper,middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.The influence relation is enhanced successively in the upper,middle and lower reaches,which is consistent with the theoretical analysis in this paper.The indirect effect of industrial upgrading on environmental pollution is much stronger than that of direct effect,and the "inverted U" relationship first increases and then decreases.This shows that the environmental pollution of each space unit is affected by the industrial upgrading of adjacent space units,which is far greater than the impact of the upgrading of the space unit industry.The industrial upgrading has a significant impact on the environmental pollution spillover effect.As for other control variables,urbanization and environmental pollution have a positive influence on the whole basin of the Yangtze River economic belt.And the trade openness,technological innovation level and environmental pollution have a negative impact relationship.The paper puts forward relevant countermeasures on the basis of summing up the above research conclusions.This paper suggests that the ecological environment level of the Yangtze River Economic Zone should be optimized from 6 aspects,namely,industrial layout,urban planning,information revolution,technological innovation,river basin governance and regional defense.
