Coenzyme Q10 is a very powerful antioxidant or free radical scavenger.Synthesized by the human body,it starts out at low levels when we are very young,reaches its peak in our young adulthood and shows a gradual decline after the age of 20,even as the body's demand for it grows.Alpha-lipoic acid(ALA)also is an outstanding antioxidant in the nature and has very good effect on inhibiting free radical scavenger.Both active antioxidants have already broadly used in nutrients and health products.In cosmetics and skincare products,they are good anti-aging miracle workers that helps boost skin regeneration for a more youthful appearance.As Coenzyme Q10 and ALA are not stable under the exposure of air or contact with the oxygen,Coenzyme Q10 is easy to breakdown under UV exposure and has discoloration issue and ALA is easy to have bad smell issue if contact with oxygen,so that the bioavailability is decreased obviously.In order to solve these issues,High Shear-High Pressure Homogenization technology was used to develop nano-emulsion of compound Coenzyme Q10 and ALA.Coenzyme Q10 and ALA were wrapped in lipid successfully and through this technology,it solved the unstability issue of Coenzyme Q10 and ALA.The first step is to make nano-emulsion of compound Coenzyme Q10 and ALA,the rate of Coenzyme Q10 to ALA is 2:1,and total compound Coenzyme Q10 and ALA level is controlled at 4.5%.The lipid mixture(emulsifiers and oils)as well as Coenzyme Q10 and ALA was melted and mixed into uniform at a temperature,then was added into the water phase at high speed shearing.Finally,the pre-emulsion is further homogenized at high pressure homogenization and through definite cycles,then nano-emulsion which was wrapped with Coenzyme Q10 and ALA was formed.The active entrapment rate is 93.46%±1.25%.It has good temperature cycling and centrifugal stability.The second step is to apply the nano-emulsion into cosmetics formulation:cream and serum,then to do the stability test,preservative challenge test and in-vivo and in-vitro evaluation testing.From application in cosmetics,Coenzyme Q10 and ALA nano-emulsion also has very good stability and the effective active still is very good.Through the in-vivo and in-vitro evaluation,we found that the nano-emulsion in the finished cosmetics formulation has very good free radical scavenging effect and also could reduce the wrinkle and fine line.In this article,we use LONZA preservative MIKROKILL COS to protest the whole nano-emulsion and receive the good antibacterial effect.Coenzyme Q10 and ALA nano-emulsion was used in cosmetics products,through the platform of nanoemulsion technology,it could effectively help the actives to penetrate into the cutin and let the actives has good penetrability on skin for better anti-oxidant and free radical scavenging benefits.Anti-oxidant and free radical scavenging are directly related with anti-aging.From above testing,we can conclude below advantage about Coenzyme Q10 and ALA nano-emulsion:1.The stability of Coenzyme Q10 and ALA nano-emulsion is improved obviously and better than pure Coenzyme Q10 and ALA.2.Via Nano-emulsion High Shear-High Pressure Homogenization technology,the bioavailability of Coenzyme Q10 and ALA was significantly greater than the simple Coenzyme Q10 and ALA.3.Through Nano-emulsion technology,Oil soluble Coenzyme Q10 and ALA also could be used in broader cosmetics products even in water base products.
