Styrene oxide was synthesized by reacting styrene with tert-butyl hydroperoxide(TBHP)over a catalyst composed of metal oxide and quaternary ammonium chloride.This synthesis process has the following advantages:without needing to prepare catalyst,no solvent needed,simple operation,short reaction time.Various of metal oxides combining with quaternary ammonium-KCl were tested as catalysts to catalyze styrene oxidation to prepare styrene oxide.The results indicated that NiO and V2O5 containing catalysts behavior the best.Based on the work,the NiO and V2O5 containing catalysts were investigated in detail to optimize the reaction conditions to obtain the best reaction results.First of all,the oxidation of styrene with butyl hydroperoxide over the catalyst composed of NiO,quaternary ammonium and KCl was investigated in detail.The influences of the quaternary ammonium salts,the reaction temperature,the dosage of catalysts and the proportion of its components,the mol ratios of styrene to butyl hydroperoxide,the injection rate of butyl hydroperoxide,and reaction time on reaction were investigated and the reaction conditions were optimized.Under the optimum reaction conditions,87.9%of styrene conversion with 68.6%of styrene oxide selectivity were obtained.The next work was that a detail investigation was performed on the oxidation of styrene by butyl hydroperoxide over catalyst composed of V2O5,quaternary ammonium and KCl.The influences of quaternary ammonium chloride,the reaction temperature,the dosage of catalysts,and butyl hydroperoxide injection rate on reaction were investigated.The results show that at the optimal reaction conditions and optimal reactant and catalyst mol ratios,a styrene conversion of 86.4%with a styrene oxide selectivity of 56.3%was obtained.
