Research On Atayal Costume And Its Patterns In Taiwan

This paper takes Taiwan Atayal costume and its patterns as the object of study.Through introducing Atayal traditional weaving,the paper elaborates on the expressive form of traditional weaving craftsmanship as well as the embedded cultural context,ethnic awareness,social organization,economic transaction and religious belief according to the time-space background,the social organization context,the component materials of fabric,the weaving tools,the weaving techniques,the completed woven fabric and other aspects.In addition,eight different branches of the Atayal clothing are taken as the study sample,through which features of Atayal clothing and pattern characteristics as well as their cultural significance are analyzed based on the type of clothing,weaving techniques,decorative techniques,patterns,colors and other aspects,especially centering around the most common pattern of Atayal clothing,the rhombic ornamentation.Known as the ancestral eyes,the rhombic pattern has multiple meanings in Atayal tribe under the influence of their ancestral faith.
