Natural d-borneol,formerly known as “Dryobalanops aromatic”,also called “Mei” in Chinese,is the product of extraction from leaves and trunks of Cinnamomum Camphora by steam distillation and crystallization.As the extraction agents,the production process will definitely produce a lot of waste residue and high concentration of organic wastewater.It can lead to serious waste of resources and severe environmental pollution.This research focused on the extraction process of natural d-borneol from Cinnamomum Camphora.Firstly,the single stage condensation only using fluid water in the traditional extraction process was modified by two-stage condensation using air in first stage and fluid water in second stage.The effect of steeping of raw material as pretreatment on the yield of borneol was studied.The effect of various condensing unit on the yield and purity of borneol was discussed.The factors which influence the yield of borneol were analyzed.The disposal methods and utilization ways of residue and waste liquid were researched.Based on the results of the experiment,the cleaner production process of natural borneol extraction from Cinnamomum Camphora was put forward.The main experimental results are as follows.Firstly,The yield of borneol was improved by 30%~40% when the raw material was steeped as pretreatment.The effect of way and types of distillation-condensation,steeping time,water-to-material ratio and distillation time on the yield and purity of borneol were studied.The results of single factor experiment and orthogonal experiment showed that the yield and purity of borneol are respectively 1.1% and 95% at the two-stage condensation,steeping time of 24 hours,water-to-material ratio of 5:1 and distillation time of 30 min.The yield and purity are improved by 45.42% and 5.44%.The disposal methods and utilization ways of residue and waste liquid,include the recycle of the waste liquid,the reuse of the waste liquid to the next extraction process,the re-extraction of the residue and the anaerobic treatment process,were researched in thisstudy.The results showed that the utilization way of waste liquid was the reuse of both residual liquid and distillate to the next extraction process until 20 times.The yield of borneol was improved to 1.28%.The purity of borneol of 20 times reuse was still above95%.After that,the residual liquid could be reused continuously,but the distillate should be discharged as wastewater.The anaerobic process is fitted in disposal of residue and waste liquid.Based on the results of the experiment,the cleaner production process of natural borneol extraction from Cinnamomum Camphora was put forward by two-stage condensation,reuse of both distillate and residual liquids,and anaerobic process at the end of the thesis.The cleaner production target of energy conservation,emission reduction,increase of production and productivity,was realized.
