2,2':6',2''-terpyridine(TPY)and its derivatives could form stable pseudo-octahedral coordination complexes with numerous transition metal ions, owing to its conjugate?bond and high activity of the three nitrogen atoms. Moreover,as a consequence of intramolecular energy and electron transfer, the TPY-Metal ion complexes exhibit characteristic optical and electrochemical properties.Cucurbit[n]uril(CB[n])is one of the most typical host molecules which usually has an influence on the optical property of the guest. And the involving of a luminescent transition metal complex reported by Wallace inspired us that with a similar structure and size, terpyridine and its derivatives could also enter the cavity of CB[10].Herein,we reported systematic investigation of the binding behaviors between CB[10]with terpyridine and its metal-derivatives.First of all,a set of TPY derivatives were synthesized, and then the binding behaviors were explored by ~1H NMR titration,UV-Vis,emission spectroscopy and ESI mass spectrometry, meanwhile the progress and applications prospect of these complexes in the filed are introduced. The results show that CB[10]can encapsulate methylated TPY(MTPY)by ~1H NMR titration, and the binding ratio between guest MTPY and host was 1:1 and 2:1 by ESI-MS.Three binding modes(1:1,1:2 and 1:3)have been detected for the binding of the metal-MTPY complexs with CB[10].
