With the development of the catering industry,there are more and more pollution problems caused by cooking oil and catering wastewater.As a result,more and more residents complain about that and they are eager to participate in the environmental management of the catering industry.Public participation plays an important role in enhancing both the government management and the government administrative efficiency.The reason lies in the following two aspects.On the one hand,through public participation,authentic public opinions can be fed back to help the government better supervise the environmental protection of the catering industry.On the other hand,the public will cooperate more actively in environmental policies of the catering industry,which can minimize the conflict in implementing those policies.Public participation,as a non-governmental social force,is taken more and more seriously.At the same time,researches on this topic are widely conducted both home and abroad.This paper examines the present situation of public participation in environmental management of catering industry in Xiangzhou District.A wide range of research methods are applied,including literature review,unstructured interviews and questionnaires.Several influencing factors of public participation are discussed and specific countermeasures and suggestions on certain social problems are provided.This paper is divided into five parts.The first presents an introduction of this study,including its background and its implications.Particularly,a detailed literature review would be conducted and the limitations of current research on this topic are discussed.Secondly,several related core concepts and theories are explained,specifically the concepts of environmental management and public participation,the theory of environmental public property,the theory of environmental public trust,the theory of environmental rights and the stakeholder theory.The third part examines the current situation of public participation in environmental management of catering industry in Xiangzhou District and then intensive interviews are used in this study so the details and results of such interviews are discussed.Fourthly,it is showed that there are insufficiencies regarding the public participation of catering management in the Xiangzhou District so the causes for such insufficiencies are identified.Fifthly,specific countermeasures and suggestions on certain social problems regarding public participation in environmental management of catering industry in Xiangzhou District are provided.This paper shows that public participation can facilitate environmental management of catering industry in Xiangzhou District.There is a gap between the ideal mode of public participation and the existing operation.In order to promote a better involvement of public participation in environmental management of catering industry in Xiangzhou District,some corresponding measures should be actively undertaken,such as intensive promotion of the idea of public participation,digitalization of environmental management in catering industry,more channels for public participation and a clearer identification of parties responsible to facilitate public participation in environmental management of catering industry.
