In the automotive sector,the lightweight technology has been widely recognized.The welding of aluminum and steel has become a hot topic.Currently,the Dana parts corporation has successfully achieved all-aluminum drive shaft for light trucks.The reason why they use the carbon steel yoke joint is that heavy-duty truck transmission torque is higher than light trucks.In this paper,6061-T6 aluminum alloy/medium carbon steel have welded by electromagnetic pulse welding.The main parameters of MPW device and the parameters of welding are studied,and the welded joint with good mechanical properties is obtained.Based on the magnetic field and the circuit mathematical model,the influence of the parameters such as charging voltage,discharge current,discharge frequency and collision gap on the welding of electromagnetic pulse device was analyzed.The welding parameters were determined by different charging voltage and collision gap,and the optimum welding parameters of 6061 aluminum ally and medium carbon steel were determined.When the aluminum tube diameter is 50 mm,the charging voltage and collision gap is 19 KV and 2mm;when the aluminum tube diameter is 20 mm,the charging voltage and collision gap is 18 KV and 1.5mm.The mechanical properties of aluminum alloy welding specimens under different process parameters were analyzed and tested by the peeling and torsion test.The results show that the bonding strength of the joints is higher than aluminum,which is obtained in the appropriate process parameters.It was found that AA6061 aluminum alloy and medium carbon steel form the waveform interface by metallographic microscope.The bonding layer at the interface of the waveform is very thickness(<10?m)by SEM.The bonding layer was mainly Al-Fe intermetallic compound and alumina particles by EDS.The results show that the hardness of the zone is significantly improved.Studies have shown that steel-side metal plastic deformation and grain refinement phenomenon.
