Voltage and reactive power is considered one of the important indicators of the qualityof electric energy, how to optimize its power system attaches great attention. For the220kVand below power grid of China Southern Power Grid, the main solution of reactive voltageremains on using mechanical switch and switching capacitor which cannot be frequentswitched and continuously adjusted, and its reactive power decreases rapidly after the voltagedrop and will impact the system when switching on the power. These four inherent defectsmake it apparently unable to meet the needs of electric power system for a higher stage ofdevelopment. To develop reactive power compensator with better performance and provide amore optimal solution for compensator basing on its existing devices is the problem calls forsolving.In order to guarantee the voltage stability and reactive power balance of220kVGuanghua Substation and solve the problem of reactive power fluctuation and negativesequence in light rail traction station, a static synchronous compensator ?D-STATCOM?with big capacity and high performance is introduced in this paper. Design of the device'smain circuit can use series multilevel structure which can both compensate reactive powerquickly and control the harmonic component and negative sequence component. This willprovide guarantees for high quality of power source and improve the ability of resistance ofhuge load fluctuations of the power system.Cooperated control strategy of dynamic reactive power compensator and AutomaticVoltage Control system (AVC) of Xiangshan Power Grid is also discussed in this paper.
