The development of information and communication technologies(ICT)greatly improves interpersonal communication ability,and then profoundly changes the cities' spatial organization form.As a result,a kind of new space form so called 'space of flows' is created.City-region study in the perspective of space of flows is increasingly focusing on the process of relationship network organizing and elements flowing between cities.It has become an important research field of city-region study recently to fully declose and deeply understand city-network.This process is greatly influencing the regional planning and development policy-making.The information flow recodes general personal interaction characteristics of society economy and culture.Being able to accurately reflect the comprehensive characteristics of complex city-network system,it is considered to be more reliable data to reveal cities' spatial relationship and structure characteristics in comparison to the traditional flow of entity elements.Taking the 17 cities of Shandong Province for example,this article firstly use the methods of social network analysis and dominant flow analysis to explore the external characteristics of provincial city-network from three aspects of network structure,node features and sub-regional division based on the communication traffic data between cities.The result shows that the total city-network of Shandong Province presents the characteristics of differentiation and disequilibrium.The total network presents a netlike radiation form similar as a double center structure which has an obvious feature of center-edge shape.The East-Shandong,West-Shandong and South-Shandong respectively present polycentric network pattern,monocentric radial pattern and low level axial pattern.Tighter cross-region connection has been developed between East-Shandong and West-Shandong powerfully driven by the cities alone the Jiaoji Line.There is hierarchical relationship of subordination between each node which can be divided into two dominant urban systems of Jinan and Qingdao and three sub urban systems of Linyi,Zibo and Jining.There is great difference between each node in External connection characteristics that the cities with more intensive interaction and higher hierarchy of information flow are more likely to have more balanced and more diversified directions of connections.We can identify certain fiction sub-structures with a close relationship and certain block sub-structures with a similar relationship inside Shandong Province.Based on the analysis of the external network characteristics,this article uses mathematical statistics method to reveal the internal mechanism of information flow further.The result shows that,there is a tight correlation between the differential relationship network characteristics and the cities' attributes.In other words the information flow network is in essence the result of differential social and economic development of each city.The intensity of information flow is closely related to the developing level of emerging economic factors such as service industry,the level of science and technology,the financial flow capacity and so on.Cities with a higher level of emerging economic factors' development tend to get a higher status in the network of information flow.However,the traditional economic factors such as industry development level and manufacturing scale are less closely related to the intensity of information flow.They have less influence on the information flow.From the population,an individual,as the initiator of information flow,has a significant influence on the production of information flow.Especially those who have high education background and high mobility,those who have jobs in the basic and producer services industry,and those who live in the urban areas are the main population group that affecting the information flow relationship between cities.However,the resident population,industry and low-level service industry population and local population have less influence on the information flow.Besides that,benefited from the free and instantaneous transmittal mode of the mobile communication,the restrictive function of the distance has been greatly weaken,but the geographical law 'distance decay' has still been followed.The article can be summed up into 5 parts.Chapter ?:Introduction.The chapter raises the research background and problems,than makes a review of the researches from domestic and foreign.At last it illustrates the theoretical and practical significance.Chapter ?:Study design.The chapter expounds the object and approaches of the study.And than it introduces the dada collecting and processing methods.In addition it introduces three main quantitative analysis methods of social network analysis,dominant flow analysis and mathematical statistics.Chapter ?:Research of the intercity relationship network characteristic of Shandong Province.The chapter uses the mobile communication data to analyse intercity relationship of Shandong from multiple perspectives.First,it reveals the relationship network structure at the level of the network as a whole and as several sub-regions.Secondly it analyses the relationship network level division and characteristic difference of the city nodes.Finally,the whole network is divided into certain secondary structures based on the recognition of close or similar connection.Chapter ?:Discussion on the formation mechanism of the information flow.Based on the correlation analysis and regression analysis of the city main attribution data such as economy,population and distance,the chapter explores the influence factors and internal mechanism of the information flow to reveal the real meaning of the space of flow.Chapter ?:Conclusion.This chapter carries on the summary regarding entire and prospects for future research.The whole thesis contains about 47 000 words,30 pictures and charts.
