In recent years, with the rapid development of bridge construction, the question of how to guarantee the security and the durability of bridges has attracted more and more attention. To replace traditionally regular or irregular bridge health testing, the safety monitoring system was built for bridges especially for long-span bridges, which is significant for monitoring and evaluation, design and verification, research and development of bridges. The safety monitoring technology of long-span bridges has aroused great concern of many experts and scholars at home and broad. The content of this article shows as follow:1. A brief review of current situation and the history of monitoring technology of bridges;2. According to individual characteristics of different bridges, based on the experiences and lessons of health monitoring systems construction, some criterions and laws of designs are given.3. A detailed introduction of the safety monitoring system for the Gaojiahuayuan Jialing River Bridge is given. 4. As to the big problem of the safety monitoring systems -how to make an effective and scientific safety evaluation for bridges by using monitoring data. This article give a detailed introduction of the theory of safety evaluation which will be applied in Gaojiahuayuan Jialing River Bridge,a great description of changing conditions and developing trend of structural parameters (such as:deflection,strain,temperature etc), a exploration of the developing discipline, and some conclusion accorded with theory of practical project.5. With more inclusiveness and higher evaluation precision, the strength index and the Stiffness index are summarized, at the same time, some conclusions consistent with theory of practical project are obtained.In this article, the author try to make a comprehensive summary of current health monitoring technology for bridges, and give a feasible elaboration of the theory of safety evaluation for bridges based on System Forecast. Some basically laws of safety monitoring technology for bridges are being approached. Some valuable suggestion about safety monitoring technology for long-span bridges is given.It is suitable to apply these conclusions drown in this article to the domain of safety monitoring for long-span bridges.
