With the extensive usage of light gauge steel system in residential industry, people come to realize the excellent performance of this structure system and huge potential improvement, which attracts many universities and enterprises to do the researches. Composite wall, as one of the important components in light gauge steel houses, is the primary target for researchers, for it almost bears the whole load of the structure, and plays a vital role in the resistance of earthquake and wind. Recent researches mainly focus on the factors such as skin, brace and aspect ratio of composite wall, while few studies on new material for composite wall were carried out.Based on previous researches, a new type of composite wall proposed in recent years- the composite wall of hat section steel wrapped with foaming concrete was tested by experiment and finite element analysis, to obtain some performance-related parameters of this composite wall when subjected with lateral force. The main contents of the article are as follows:(1) History of the development of nowadays light gauge steel composite wall was introduced and the research status was briefly summarized;(2) The components and practice of composite wall of hat section steel wrapped with foaming concrete were introduced exhaustively and the advantages and disadvantages of composite wall were briefly analyzed;(3) Tests of two pieces of full-scale walls were carried out on no vertical force but with lateral monotonic loading, which obtained the load- displacement curve, deformation characteristics, and ultimately destroy the modal characteristics, such as the development of foam concrete cracks performance parameters. The test results of the two pieces of the wall were compared to analyze the impact of steel cap openings on the wall crack development;(4) Finite element simulations of composite wall were performed by ABAQUS, which has used a static nonlinear method to analysis. A simplified model of the mechanical composite wall was presented and ultimate load performance was conformed.Tests showed that composite wall of hat section steel wrapped with foaming concrete has good seismic performance, steel frame and foam concrete can be better together by force, proposed simplified model also provides some follow-up research and engineering practice reference.
