Nowadays,there are many ways in the monitoring system of grab dredger at home and abroad of including graphic,curves and figures,such as the degree of opening of a grab by dashboard display,digital display of grab' depth under the water and so on.Based on this situation,this paper aims to do some research about underwater visual simulation of grab dredgers.To finish this visual simulation system,this paper explored and tried to use communication technology,computer graphics technology and procedure design to the visual real-time simulation. Under the guidance of the hardware configuration, software functional requirements of the existing dredging and construction of electrical control system and the positioning system,this paper has told developed a underwater visual simulation system for grab dredgers.First,this paper introduced the structure of a underwater visual real-time simulation system for grab dredgers.This grab dredger is a prototype with a 18m3 grab.Second this paper studied and researched about the key issues in the process of the visualization system.Those key issues consisted of building of a mathematical model of depth compensation because of boat tilt and hoist arm,and building a mathematical model of the degree of opening a grab and the form display.Third,this paper described how the visualization software of grab dredgers was designed and realized.,The system did some transformations of three-dimensional models through OpenGL and computer programming.for example,model transformation,projection transformation,viewpoint transformation and viewport transformation,in OpenGL were used redraw and render the model in the real time to achieve the overall three-dimensional graphics and grab dredgers independent visualization simulation, while achieving real-time digital data display.Then this paper introduced the digging tests of the 18m3 grab dredger prototype at shore,to validate the dredging visual effects in real-time simulation system and other functional modules, including data display and graphic display,and offers more measures to improve and optimize the visual simulation system.The last chapter summarized this issue,then put forward the shortcomings of this paper and presented further researches and next steps about this issue.
