As tourism develops in china, there has been changes to where people spend their money and the way to spend their vacation. Now days there have been an increase to cultural consumption relative to other consumptions during a vacation. People's views about taking vacations are changing over the time. In the past taking a vacation is more like “sightseeing”, but nowadays tourists are more into “leisure” vacation, where they could spend more time on vacations spots. Consumers are more focused on cultural experience in that part of country where they went to then before, therefore accommodations that were designed to reflect the culture aspect of that part of the country were more welcomed then before.The article starts with the prairie culture of Hulun Buir area and gives a description of local human and natural resources. It emphasizes on the design elements of the prairie resort hotel, and makes an aesthetic analysis of the existing local resort hotels through comparison; meanwhile, it points out the design problems on the form of the local resort hotels. By the use of the successful modeling design of other resort hotels with regional culture, and combination with local cultural characteristics and design elements, it puts forward specific methods to solve the problem of form design. Then it analyzes the traditional architecture of the local grassland, from the perspective of the architectural form, the totem and color, it finds a way to make these elements properly applied in formal resort hotel designs. Architectural form is mainly about the outer contour shape, proportion, layout axis, and the structure, and by making an analysis of these elements, the design technique of external modeling of the resort hotel can be achieved. Mainly from the traditional drawings' types and their ways of organizing and arranging, the totem is used to analyze the characteristics of drawings' form, keep its characteristics, and simplify the form used in building decoration; and the study of traditional color is to provide a basis to the external colour collocation of the hotel building. The fifth chapter mainly summarizes the content of the first four chapters, puts forward the method of designing grassland resort hotels with beautiful forms and points out the design of resort hotels with prairie culture. The last chapter will support the views mentioned with practical designs.Through this paper, the writer tends to find out the root of resort hotels in culture aspect as well as the structure of the traditional architectural form for hotel buildings. The aim of the paper is to put forward the writer's own understanding and solution to the phenomenon that the local resort hotels are lack of regional cultural features and not simple in form. Hope this paper can provide data and basis for the aesthetic design and subsequent research materials of the Hulun Buir resort hotel in future.
