In the field of landscape architecture, GIS become increasingly widespread because of its powerful analysis, management and other functions. The present study is not comprehensive enough as it mainly focus on individual case or an aspect and give less attention to the overall situation of the research direction. Therefore this article, based on combing the domestic and foreign GIS application in the field of landscape architecture planning and design, summarizes different aspects of GIS in various stages of using methods. According to the practice of landscape architecture planning and design at different stages of the process, through the present situation of research, analysis and evaluation, planning management feedback, this article aims to promote the development of GIS in domestic. This article has six chapters. The first chapter introduces the research background, purpose, significance, research innovations, research methods, research contents and framework, research problem. The second chapter sort out the development and research review of GIS in both domestic and foreign to introduce the application of GIS used in landscape architecture. The third chapter describes the present situation of GIS in the use of research stage, including the current status of data collection and management and auxiliary investigation. The fourth chapter is the core of the thesis chapters, discusses the use of GIS in the analysis and evaluation stage, including the analysis of landform, land use suitability evaluation, accessibility, visibility analysis, sensitivity analysis, landscape pattern analysis, landscape biodiversity conservation, green land benefit evaluation, green infrastructure, sound scene and other technology methods. The fifth chapter describes the use of GIS in the planning management feedback from auxiliary design drawing(site excavation filling and ecological corridor planning, Geodesign), setting up the planning management information system and public participation. The sixth chapter summarized the full text, points out research problem and puts forward research prospects.
