Generator is one of the most expensive and important apparatus of a power system, so the safe and reliable operation has always been the highest priority. Insulation breakdown is a serious failure of generator, which can result in substantial costs for both repair and financial losses due to inadvertent outages. Generator fault discharge measurement has been widely considered as one of the most effective approach to access the health condition of generator stator winding insulation.Due to astounding improvements technology, online fault discharge monitoring technologies have been rapid developed and online monitoring systems has rapid expansion. At the same time, many successful applications of online monitoring systems for the generator winding insulation condition have been reported. However, due to the lack of remote monitoring and analysis capabilities, the expert need to go to the site and check more information, such as raw sampled data, fault discharge related generator operation information, et al, to carry out the further analysis.The background of the subject and HOMIS(Hydropower plant Optimal Maintenance Information System) was introduced. Based on generator fault discharge on-line monitoring, the method for fault discharge analysis was studied by simulating the thinking approach of expert and the analysis model of expert was constructed. The pattern drawing and analysis of fault discharge detected by the capacitor installed on the generator neutral was study. Based on the analysis model of expert and the HOMIS framework, the remote monitoring and analysis platform was developed. In the platform, the association analysis of fault discharge pattern and generator operating states, the reports analysis, and trend analysis could be carried out in a more humane way. The remote monitoring and analysis platform for generator fault discharge has been put into service in Geheyan hydro power plant. The industrial application examples are demonstrated.
