The control strategy of modern engine electronic control unit(ECU) become more and more complex and make it difficult to develop ECU. Hardware in the loop simulation technology is a widely usedtechnology in the engine's development process of V type which can Obviously shorten the ECU development cycle and reduce the cost.The main work of this paper is to build a hardware in the loop(HIL) simulation test system of an engine electronic control unit. After a comparison between the several popular methods of HIL this paper choose the xPC-Target as HIL simulation method and begin design the layout of the entire system.This paper build the engine simulation model with Matlab/Simulank based on the theory of mean-value engine model, including the manifold model,the fuel system model and the engine dynamics model. Next this paper build the sensors and the engine control system simulation model with the experimental data and acomplish the modeling of the ECU.Afetr a deeply study of the theory of Matlab/x PC-Target, this paper build a real time simulation kernel with a PC computer which has several PCI slots and design the board drivers to make NI PCI-6713 and CAN board work on the environment of x PC kernel. This paper test the whole system on hardware to check whether it work or not. The test result indicated that the HIL system work well.
