Accurate and real-time measurement of the aircraft fuel-measurement system is the significant guarantee for safety and reliability of the aircraft. This topic is a pre-research project put forward by an aircraft company of AVIC, its purpose is to improve measurement precision and provide theoretical and experimental study for the optimization design of new type fuel measuring system.Owing to the reasons of aircraft attitude error and fuel surface sloshing, causes the fuel plane calculation is not accurate, so the current measurement methods which use the height value of fuel sensor, flight attitude angle and aircraft acceleration information to determine the position of the fuel surface and calculate the fuel volume are inaccurate. This paper put forward a multi-sensor fuel volume measurement method: reasonable arranges multiple capacitance fuel sensors in the fuel tank, and ensures that at least three sensors are immersed(but not completely) in the fuel at each attitude angle, the fuel surface is determined directly by the measured height of several fuel sensors, and calculate the fuel volume.This main research content in this paper include: firstly, introduced the methods of fuel volume characteristics calculation which base on the slice principle. Adopting CAD secondary development and the Visual Basic language, designed the generating software of fuel tank volume characteristic database. Secondly, this paper studied the method of optimized layout of aircraft fuel sensors, and had a layout calculation of sensors on experimental tank model. The volume characteristic database software verified the accuracy of layout of fuel sensors, which can Satisfied the requirement of attitude angle and the measuring precision. Then, this paper introduced the current measurement method which use the single height value of fuel sensor, flight attitude angle and aircraft acceleration information and multi-sensor fuel volume measurement method. Adopting the two measurement methods of fuel volume, design the fuel volume calculation software respectively. Besides, rotation test platform is designed for aircraft fuel tank with two degrees of freedom to simulate fuel measurement process. The experimental data verified the accuracy and feasibility of multi-sensor fuel measurement system. The measurement accuracy of multi-sensor simulation method introduced in this paper compared with the existing single sensor measurement accuracy is improved through the error analysis.
