With the development of science and technology, traditional processing methods of hard and fragile materials can hardly achieve the required effects. Ultrasonic processing, due to its weak interaction on products surfaces and low processing temperature, is especially applicable for the processing of hard and fragile materials. It has been widely applied in the areas such as national defense and spaceflight. Ultrasonic finishing processing, which is an important branch of ultrasonic machining, with its advantages of being efficient and effective, has been widely used in the processing of piston rods and the internal surfaces of hydrocylinders.In this paper, the backgrounds of ultrasonic finishing processing, its features and advantages will be introduced and discussed:Firstly, through Matlab simulation, from the perspective of damping, advantages of ultrasonic finishing processing will be discussed and analyzed. Then, a sandwich transducer, with the frequency of 30 kHz, is designed. Through ANSYS, the matching inductor is calculated and the intensity verified. With ANSYS Workbench, transient thermal analysis is made. An air cooling system is also made for the transducer. In addition, the driving power of the ultrasonic finishing processing is designed, including the frequency tracking circuit, full-bridge inverter circuit, signal generating circuit, the dead-zone protection circuit and the IGBT driver circuit. The validity of the circuit design has been tested and proved. Finally, the conclusion of the research will be made and further researches in this field be forecasted.
