Particle damping is a vibration passive control technology. It is primarily through putting some metal or nonmetal particles under a fill rate into cavity of vibrating structures or additional cavity. When the mechanical structure vibrate, particles and between particles and the inner wall of the cavity will produce friction and impact. At the same time, it is keeping on momentum exchange, friction heat and noise radiation, then the vibration energy of the system can be expend to achieve the goal of reducing vibration and noise. Because particle damping has advantages of great damping, simpler structure, low cost and easy operation, this new vibration control technology will have a broad space for engineering application and development in the future.At present, since theoretical research is not deep enough and the design parameter optimization research of particle damper still is not perfected, the study of particle damping is mainly composed of the experiment. According to the characteristics of this technology, the thesis research particle damping theory, and the results of the theoretical analysis need be proved by experiments. Besides, this thesis come up with a particle impact damper with elastic material coating and analyzes the result by the theory and experiment.The main contents of this dissertation are expressed as follows:(1) Establish the theoretical model of particle impact and friction energy dissipation and do the analog computation of the energy consumption model by Matlab. Then analyse the influence of damper parameters on the effect of energy dissipation.(2) Combined with the characteristics of viscoelastic materials and the damping mechanism, come up with a particle impact damper with elastic material coating. Establish this new type of damper’s energy dissipation model and compare with common particle dampers.(3) Study the influence of damper parameters on the effect of damping by experiments. Research if the particle impact damper with elastic material coating has effect on damping to verify the correctness of the theory research.(4) Study the influence of damper parameters on the effect of vibration noise by experiments. Compare the noise value of two kinds of particle dampers, then verify if the particle impact damper with elastic material coating can reduce the noise.
