Drive axle is the last unit of the transmission system, is composed of main reducer, differential, half axle and drive axle case. Its basic function is to increase torque from the drive shaft or transmission. Transmission power is reasonably passed to the left and right drive wheels. Besides, it can bear vertical force of the road, the frame and body, horizontal force, longitudinal force.The differential is one of the important parts of automobile transmission. It can transfer the engine torque of universal transmission device to the drive wheels, in order to reduce speed and increase torque. The differential has a special role for improving the car driving stability. The designers attach importance to it in automotive design. In this thesis, light automobile differential assembly is designed, so that it is feasible. The main contents of the paper are as follows:(1) In the design process, according to the differential principle of differential, working principle and characteristics of different types, the symmetric bevel gear differential research program is established.(2) For bevel gear transmission design, the application of PRO/E5.0 software realize 3 d modeling of the differential and straight bevel gear parametric modeling, and virtual assemble, it laid the foundation for finite element analysis.(3) Using ANSYS finite element analysis software is to contact analysis, of automotive differential bevel gear., the wheel body is divided in PRO/E, then virtual assemble, import the ANSYS Workbench, stress distribution rule of the gear meshing contact state will be obtained by analysis.(4) Using ANSYS finite element analysis software is to statics analysis of differential case, strength and stiffness analysis on the differential case can be completed. Through the differential case meshing, setting loads and boundary conditions, then solving, stress and strain distribution rule can be obtained. By the rule damaged parts of the differential case can be found easily. Effective measures should be proposed to improve differential case strength.
