With the improvement of people’s living standards and the increase of national self-confidence, more and more people realize the importance of inheriting traditional culture and promoting Chinese national characteristics. The view of the environment has been changed among the people, which asking for more national and regional characteristics of the landscape in modern city. The’new Chinese-style’is the fresh type of landscape which produced by such transformation of notion.As an important part of city public space, the commercial street is not only the places of commodity trading, but also has the function of tourism, leisure and entertainment, and it is an important window to show the city landscape, spirit and culture, promoting the development of city with its abundant culture and strong vitality. Thirty years of rapid urbanization, which has brought great change to the domestic commercial street landscape, as well as the problems. In terms of culture and image of commercial street, this paper put forward the problems of China’s commercial street landscape design that contain in the lack of’communication’between commercial street and landscape, the imbalance of commercial atmosphere and cultural atmosphere, alike and plagiarism phenomenon of landscape image. The author also takes a deep consideration on it and tries to introduce the ’new Chinese-style’to the commercial street landscape design as a way to solve these phenomena and contradictions. The author summarizes features of’new Chinese-style’ landscape and its application in various types of landscape design in order to make clear the value of this type. Then, the paper makes a research to the method of commercial street landscape design based on the’new Chinese-style’. It points out the cruces of’new Chinese-style’landscape design on commercial street from the cultural characteristics expression, the traditional landscape inheritance, commercial atmosphere, ecological and humane place construction. According to the points of design, the author takes a further study to design from conception, space formation, space sequence and the landscape factors. In order to make more in-depth discussion of the commercial street landscape design based on the’new Chinese-style’, the paper takes the actual case of Hefei 1912 commercial district and Hangzhou Southern Song imperial street as example to make the demonstration and feedback from practice to theory.
