The Research Of Ethical Implication Of The Church Buildings Of Beijing

As one of the three major religions in the world,Christianity has great influence on history,culture,art and other aspects.Its sanctified idea attracts believers,inducing them to internalize the moral concepts of Christianity and thus affecting their mind and behavior.The church buildings are the physical presence of Christianity which centrally embodies its idea.In the church,believers communicate with the God and receive divinely instructions from Him.With the coming of Christianity,church buildings were built up consecutively in Beijing.This kind of foreign buildings with its typical western construction style was merged into Beijing where is crowed with traditional Chinese buildings.The blending and conflicts between western and Chinese culture took place in Beijing,the city of the concentrated embodiment of traditional Chinese culture.However,how to view these western buildings “awkwardly” scattered in Beijing's Hutong with antique beauty?Based on the thought listed above,this thesis tries to analyzes the church buildings in Beijing to understand their moral function and ethical values.This thesis analyzes the four embodiments of the moral essence of Christian culture in church buildings,spatial shape,decorative symbols,color and shade,and routine activities.Then,it extends to the moral function reflected by Beijing church buildings to discuss their values form their functions.The discussion ranges from the combination and intersection between religious and mundane ethics to the thought on the three dimensional relationship between “people,God and society” under the religious ethics and church ethical function,to the interactive and intertwining reflection on religions,buildings and ethics,finally to the cross-over study meaning of ethics and architecture.This thesis renews the ethical values of the church buildings in Beijing area from various points of view including the views of religious ethics,the embodiment of building's ethical function and its values.
