With the development of china's construction and technology, many structural works with innovative forms that are difficult and costly to construct have been successfully built one after another, and they progress rapidly in a trend as never before. It is strongly required for construction industry to monitor the health of the architecture structure. So far, lots of structural works have adopted different types of structural health monitoring (SHM) system, and that has received good effects. It has been an inevitable trend for construction industry to detect the health of constructed structures and large-scale structures which are under construction. The sensor is the basis of SHM. The traditional sensor is the electrical sensor, which is easily influenced by electromagnetic interference, long distance and the circumstance. These influencing factors have limited the application of the traditional sensor in the long-term monitoring, which hinder the development of structural health monitoring as well. While, In recent years, the development and application of Fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor has played a contributory role in SHM industry. The FBG sensor makes up the deficiencies of the traditional electrical sensor and is replacing the latter because of its own advantages, and is widely used in the construction, bringing both good social and economic benefits. However, the FBG sensor system is not perfect in all conditions. In some cases, electrical sensors are also needed to assist FBG sensors in the SHM so that the SHM system will be more reasonable and perfect.Nowadays, the theory of FBG sensor system used in SHM system is quite complete. Types of the FBG sensor are varied and the data collection and processing methods are also diverse. But the specific construction of FBG sensor system in SHM is often overlooked, resulting in unexpected results even if we have made good plans. In addition, we lack criteria to restrain and instruct the construction of FBG sensor system in SHM.This paper is based on engineering practice, introducing the application and construction techniques of the FBG sensor in SHM system, such as in the steel structure, cable structure and concrete structure, etc. The paper also proposes the common technological process in the design of construction scheme for the application of FBG sensor system in SHM. According to different structures, we can take corresponding construction measures to ensure a powerful effect of FBG sensor system in SHM system. The projects referred to in this thesis include the SHM of a factory's steel cutting, Dalian Gymnasium, Dalian Stadium, the stadium of Leqing city, the Boguan bridge of Shenyang, the wharf of Tianjin port, the haihua pipe pile of Hainan and so on. The long-term monitoring results show that FBG sensor system in SHM is stable and reliable. Because of its feasible construction technology. FBG sensor system has a strong demonstration effect and reference value to the structural health monitoring of whether the constructed structures or the major projects going to be built in the near future.
