Along with the economic development in Qujing region, various modern buildings springing up quickly in the city. Among many kinds of building foundations, the pile foundation which has high bearing capacity, large stiffness with little deformation, becoming the first choice of bridge and multiple layer building. Mudstone socketed pile were widely used in the typical mudstone area in western Qujing, people always use a conservative value because of special bearing characteristics, this caused huge waste in foundation works.This article will study the geology of the Qujing region and the Devonian system mudstone around the city, analyze the physics, mechanics and bearing capacity character of mudstone. Summarize how to get the proper value of foundation bearing force. Research the force distribute of the mudstone socketed pile, build the finite element model of mudstone socketed pile, to analyze the side resistance and the end resistance of socketed segment, as well as the factors affect the bearing capacity. After conduct Numerical simulation analysis, summarized the load characteristics of mudstone socketed pile. Finally proposed the engineering recommendations of mudstone socketed pile in Qujing area.
